Guy Salmon Land Rover
Knutsford
Leading automotive retailer Sytner Group appointed us to assist them with their plans to renovate an existing Guy Salmon Land Rover showroom in Knutsford. We provided our multi-disciplinary services for the project that limited the client’s risk relating to co-ordination between different consultants in the design team and streamlined the design process.
What we did
Civil engineering
The site’s rural location came with challenges – there were no foul or surface water sewers nearby and the existing infiltration drainage system was insufficient. We developed a new drainage system approved by the Environment Agency with a bespoke tertiary treatment chamber.
One of the main goals of the project was to ensure that the showroom remained operational during throughout the refurbishment. We met this goal successfully by focusing on minimising waste and ensuring efficiency by retaining existing systems as much as possible.
Structural engineering
We designed an extension to the existing mezzanine floor and added a new entrance porch to the building.
Geo-Environmental Engineering
Infiltration testing to measure water run-off enabled us to find a sustainable solution for the surface water drainage strategy in the form of soakaways.
Adding value
By utilising the internal multi-disciplinary services we provided on the project, we were able to successfully overcome the biggest challenges on the project – particularly the below ground drainage by developing an innovative solution for the new foul drainage system in the form a tertiary treatment chamber. The development of the tertiary treatment chamber avoided the need to re-construct the drainage field underlying the car park, reducing client costs.
By recycling the existing system’s elements, we minimised waste and ensured the continuation of our client’s operations, which was one of the main concerns for the client when beginning the project.
