East Leeds Extension

Leeds

One of the largest infrastructure projects the city’s seen in the past few decades, the East Leeds Extension will eventually create up to 5,000 high-quality new homes across more than 233 hectares. As part of this major programme, we’re working with Taylor Wimpey on their proposed development that will include upwards of 1,000 homes.

Civil engineering
Working with the architect to identify constraints and opportunities, as well as providing input to the masterplan process. Developing a sustainable drainage system and strategy. Detailed design of site infrastructure (including highways), assessment of levels and volumetric cut-and-fill analysis.

Geo-environmental engineering
Phase 1 desk studies and phase 2 ground investigation of a former opencast coal mining site. Producing a ground model to highlight issues with settlement and artesian water, and inform the foundation solutions.

Structural engineering
Assessment and structural survey of an existing bridge that will be retained within a public space.

Adding value
Our assessment of the significant site constraints, including the artesian water and high opencast wall, allowed for an optimised masterplan to be developed. We also provided expert advice on
the delivery phasing and assessed the suitability of materials for re-use, thus minimising waste.
