Automotive retail specialists The Sytner Group engaged with us to support them with their project of a new Mercedes-Benz dealership in Carlisle by utilising our multi-disciplinary services. Through rigorous planning and by undertaking detailed assessments and designs across our various departments, we were able to give our client the confidence to bring their vision of the dealership to life.
What we did
We assisted with the Planning Application by producing a combined Phase 1 Desk Study and Phase 2 Site Investigation.
This included reviewing historical maps with any risk items identified, testing the ground conditions and contamination risks on site.
We supported the submission of the Planning Application by producing a detailed Transport Statement and Travel Plan that outlined the new development’s traffic impact.
A detailed Flood Risk Assessment was produced for the site to be submitted
with the Planning Application along with the design for the external hardstanding areas. This included a range of surface finishes to suit anticipated operational requirements and a sustainable drainage system to manage surface water run-off.
We undertook the detailed design of the two buildings that included 30m spanning portal frames with traditional shallow foundations, ground bearing slabs and composite concrete upper mezzanine floors.
We were able to guide and assist the client through the entire project from feasibility through to construction ensuring that their initial goals and objectives were achieved.
We were able to utilise the benefits of steel portal frames with the available uninterrupted space that they provide to maximise the available space for the dealership that also ensured a sustainable and economical steel design package.
