What we did

Structural Engineering

The structural design involved the design of a three storey apartment blocks in load bearing masonry frame construction with heavy precast upper floors. Attached to the apartment blocks is an open plan Village Hall. Steelwork is used to form

the open plan village hall, to form the external walkways that connect between the apartment blocks and provide transfer structures where the masonry walls are not continuous down to foundation level. The foundations are detailed as reinforced concrete ground beams that are supported from piled foundations. The external retaining walls are also detailed as part of the structural package.

Adding Value

Careful detailing of the interfaces between steelwork and masonry has been considered to help achieve slimfloor walkways and masonry piers, while achieving the architects intent.

By providing an efficient design that minimised the quantity of material such as concrete foundations that were required, thereby reducing the carbon footprint on the job.
