The Arena

Birmingham

Working in close conjunction with BAM Construction, Rodgers Leask provided full civil and structural engineering design services for the refurbishment and extension of the National Indoor Arena project on behalf of the NEC group.

We have provided services from feasibility stage and have undertaken structural surveys of existing assets & liaison with 3rd party adjacencies such as Network Rail and The Canal and River Trust to provide our client with a robust design and confidence to move the project through planning, tender and into construction.

The design work has focused particularly on buildability to maintain access and use of the adjacent venue during the contraction phase and to protect public access to the adjacent canal towpaths and railway lines beneath the NIA.

The Scheme comprises of piled foundations threaded between existing foundations and live services supporting a steel frame structure with composite metal deck floors. A high specification glazed façade is provided to complete the building envelope for which careful design has been undertaken in consideration of wind and thermal movement together with replacement strategies for future maintenance.
