Bilborough College

Nottingham

Comprehensive engineering solutions encompassing ground investigation, drainage and external works design, with design of a two-storey maths and science block.

What we did

Geo-environmental Engineering

Phase one desktop study and Coal Mining Risk Assessment. Phase two intrusive
site investigation used to inform the foundation designs and any requirements for treatment works associated with past coal workings, and to identify any contamination issues in the ground.

Structural Engineering

Two-storey steel frame designed with floor beams supporting PCC planks and screed. Roof level includes precast concrete planks for proposed plant loads. External walls comprise SFS inner skin,
insulated cavity and brick outer skin. Column and bracing layouts coordinated with the architectural scheme; floor beams aligned with mechanical and electoral requirements for classrooms.

Delivering Sustainability

Surface water drainage restricted to 5 l/s into existing sewer, with attenuation provided in the form of a below ground tank. Permeable paving utilised in private hardstanding areas surrounding the building to satisfy the Lead Local Flood Authority and to provide sufficient surface water treatment before outfall.

Civil Engineering

Design of surface and foul water drainage outfalling into nearby sewers, external hardstanding/landscaping specifications, external levels design tying into existing pedestrian routes
and car park and in accordance with building regs Part M Vol 2.

Adding Value

We provided a cost effective design and value engineering.

“Rogers Leask were very open in their approach throughout our engagement which lead to a very successful build”
